Flores, Guatemala
Flores, Guatemala – 2016. Flores is a town in the Guatemalan department of Petén. It is an island on the lake Lago Petén Itzá and is connected to the shore by a causeway and bridge. On the shore end of the causeway are the towns of Santa Elena and San Benito. All three towns are usually referred to as Flores.
Flores is the closest accessible town to Tikal which is one of the most well know Mayan ruins sites in Guatemala. There are a number of other of Mayan ruin sites in Petén which are accessible from Flores.
The town of Flores has a colonial history and has narrow cobblestone streets and many colonial era buildings. There are lots of good restaurants and stores with local crafts and souvenirs for sale. The Island is small and it is very easy to walk everywhere.
